This is how Barça’s financial fair play is viewed by LaLiga
FC Barcelona’s Financial Fair Play Challenge
FC Barcelona is closer, but still lacks the 1/1 fair play threshold according to LaLiga. The reduction in salary bills makes it easier to move closer to this scenario, but the sale of the stadium seats, through which the club reduced the squad cost limit by €100 million, remains crucial.
“For the body chaired by Javier Tebas, FC Barcelona is close but has not yet reached the desired 1/1 Fair Play scenario that would allow it to register players with complete normality in this summer market. This has been confirmed by sources consulted by MD.”
The €100 Million Hurdle
As we explained at the time in MD, and as was reflected in the CSD ruling ratifying the precautionary measures for the registration of footballers Dani Olmo and Pau Víctor at Barça, on March 28, the CSD received a letter from the employers’ association stating that it had “become aware yesterday afternoon of the Consolidated Interim Financial Statements (EEFFII) of Fútbol Club Barcelona as well as the limited review report corresponding to December 31, 2024.”
“LaLiga considered that it was proven… that FC Barcelona did not have a Sports Squad Cost Limit at any time as of December 31, 2024… Consequently, today, LaLiga’s Budget Validation Body has proceeded to reduce the FC Barcelona’s Sports Squad Cost Limit by 100 million euros.”
Recent Financial Moves
Specifically, since April 2, the Blaugrana club has been exempt from Financial Fair Play. FC Barcelona lost this 1/1 status granted at the beginning of the year when La Liga refused to accept the €100 million transaction corresponding to the sale of the future Camp Nou boxes.
“FC Barcelona has been carrying out transactions that have allowed it to free up its salary. The latest was Ansu Fati’s loan to Monaco, which frees up the club’s salary by around eight million euros. In the case of Clement Lenglet, his move to Atlético de Madrid has left them with a margin of another six million.”
Current Registration Limitations
Until this scenario is achieved, as we have been explaining in MD, FC Barcelona cannot use either 100% of the player’s sale or the salary it releases, nor can it use it in the case of a loan. This is the case with Ansu Fati.
“Barça could only use up to 60% of salary and amortization costs for a new player, rising to 70% for franchise players… For player sales, the Blaugrana club can use 20% of the player’s sale, a percentage that rises to 35% for franchise players.”
